Our chocolate chips are made from only organic cacao from Peru and organic sugar from Paraguay, both grown by small farmer co-ops. They're manufactured in an allergen-free facility right in Peru. That means a greater percentage of the purchase price stays in the origin country, strengthening the local economy. With a rising demand for Peruvian cacao, the farmer members of Aprosaraoch switched their attention from bananas to cacao in 2009. Aprosaraoch expects a continued increase in farmer membership since many farmers in the geographic highlands are converting from coffee to cacao due to challenges associated with climate change.
